Beyond the Face: How Botox and Filler Facilities Treat Aging Hands and Neck

The face gets the most attention when it comes to aging. It is what we see first in the mirror, and where most aesthetic treatments focus. But skin ages everywhere, and two areas tend to show it in ways that catch people off guard: the hands and the neck.

These areas are constantly exposed and rarely protected the way the face is. Over time, the skin thins, volume fades, and the changes become harder to address with skincare alone. For many people, it is the moment they notice those changes that raises the question: can the same treatments that work on the face help here too?

They can. Botox and dermal fillers have well-established applications for hands and neck that go beyond what most people associate with facial aesthetics.

This blog explains the causes of aging in these areas, how each treatment addresses them, and what the process entails.

Why Hands and Neck Age Differently From the Face

The skin on your hands and neck is structurally different from facial skin. It is thinner, it produces less oil, and it is exposed to the same environmental stressors as your face, but it typically receives far less protection.

Hands are constantly exposed to sunlight, water, cleaning products, and friction. Over time, the skin thins, the underlying fat layer decreases, and the veins, tendons, and bones become more visible. What was once smooth, full skin starts to look transparent and bony. Sun damage adds dark spots and uneven texture on top of the volume loss.

The neck deals with a different set of changes. Collagen and elastin break down, creating crepey texture and horizontal lines that deepen with time. The platysma muscle, which runs from the collarbone to the jawline, can develop visible vertical bands as it loosens. These changes happen gradually, and by the time they are noticeable, skincare products alone are rarely enough to reverse them.

How Fillers Restore Volume to Aging Hands

The most significant change in aging hands is volume loss. The fat layer beneath the skin thins, leaving veins and tendons exposed. Dermal fillers address this directly by restoring the fullness that time has taken away.

Radiesse is the most commonly used filler for hands and is FDA-approved specifically for hand rejuvenation. It is composed of calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres in a gel carrier. When injected into the back of the hand, it immediately adds volume, smoothing the skin over veins and tendons and creating a fuller, more natural contour. Beyond the immediate effect, Radiesse stimulates your body's collagen production over time, so the improvement continues to develop in the weeks and months following treatment.

Results typically last 12 to 18 months. The treatment itself takes about 15 to 20 minutes, and most people resume their normal routine the same day. Mild swelling or bruising at the injection site is common and usually resolves within a few days.

For hands that also show sun damage, dark spots, or uneven pigmentation, a dermatologist may combine filler treatment with laser therapy or chemical peels to address both volume loss and surface-level changes.

How Botox and Fillers Address Neck Aging

The neck presents two distinct concerns, and each one responds to a different type of treatment.

1. Platysmal Bands

These are the vertical lines or cords that appear on the front of the neck as the platysma muscle loosens with age. Botox works here the same way it does on the face: by relaxing the muscle that creates the visible line. Small, targeted injections along the bands soften their appearance, creating a smoother, more relaxed neck profile. Results typically last three to four months, and the treatment can be repeated to maintain the effect.

2. Horizontal Neck Lines and Crepey Texture

These are caused by collagen loss, sun damage, and the natural thinning of skin over time. Fillers can be used carefully along deeper horizontal lines to soften their appearance, though the neck requires a lighter touch than the face because the skin is thinner and more delicate. A dermatologist with experience in neck rejuvenation knows how to place filler precisely to create a natural result without overfilling.

For broader texture concerns, treatments such as microneedling, skin-tightening lasers, or combination approaches may complement injectable treatments and improve the overall quality of the skin across the neck.

What to Expect from Treatment

If you are considering Botox or filler treatment for your hands or neck, a consultation with a board-certified dermatologist is the best starting point. During that conversation, the dermatologist will evaluate the specific changes in your skin, discuss which treatments are most appropriate, and explain what kind of results you can realistically expect.

A few things worth knowing going in:

  • Treatments are performed in-office and typically completed in under 30 minutes
  • Most people experience minimal downtime, with mild swelling or bruising that resolves quickly
  • Results from fillers are visible immediately and improve as collagen production builds over the following weeks
  • Botox results for neck bands typically become visible within a week and last three to four months
  • Maintenance treatments are needed to sustain results over time, and your dermatologist will help you plan a schedule that fits your goals

The goal is to help your hands and neck reflect the same level of care you have already given your face. These treatments are designed to restore what time has changed, not to alter how you look, but to bring everything back into balance.

Your Hands and Neck Deserve the Same Attention as Your Face

The signs of aging that show up on your hands and neck are real, and so are the treatments that address them. Fillers restore the volume that makes hands look full and smooth again. Botox softens the bands and lines that make the neck look older than it needs to. Together, they extend the results you have already invested in on your face to the areas that often get overlooked.

At Farah Dermatology & Cosmetics, we offer a full range of injectable and aesthetic treatments for the face, hands, and neck, including Radiesse for hand rejuvenation and Botox for neck bands and lines. Our board-certified dermatologists take the time to understand what matters to you and recommend treatments that deliver natural, balanced results.

If you have noticed changes in your hands or neck and want to explore your options, schedule a consultation and let us help you feel confident in every part of your appearance.
